Lent
Disciplines of Fast and Abstinence
On Ash Wednesday (17 February) and Good Friday (2 April)
all Catholics between the ages of 15 and 59 are required to fast,
which means eating only one meal, along with two lesser meals,
which together do not equal one regular meal. Catholics 14 and
older are obligated to abstain from eating meat on these dates
and all Fridays of Lent.

Fr. Michael W. Wellnitz, the 21st pastor of The Catholic Community of Holmes County, was a brilliant wood carver.  His sets of Stations of the Cross adorn several Churches in our Diocese, including St. Brendan, Hilliard, SS. Peter & Paul, Glenmont, and St. Peter, Millersburg.

Fr. Mike's masterpiece, however, is the near-life-size crucifix which hangs behind the altar
in St. Peter, Millersburg.

Each Good Friday the Corpus is removed from the Cross and this one Cross is used for the Veneration.  It is one of the most moving parts of the Holy Week Liturgy as dozens of Parishioners and guests stream into the sanctuary and touch, kiss, bow in front of, lift their children to see, or in some other way venerate the Cross of Christ.

It is our hope and expectation that years from now our children and their children and their children's children will still be honoring Christ by venerating this same Cross which was honored by us and many generations after us.
